Using Google's Sketchup 3D modeling software, a highly accurate 3D computer model of USS Liberty is being constructed.

The model should prove useful in performing and validating various forensic studies.  Because the model is drawn accurately -- based on the ship's plans and photographs -- forensic studies involving measurements on the ship will accurately represent reality.

The image below shows the model as it existed on March 21, 2008, after several months of part-time work, over about a one year period.

When the model is finished, the current plan is to post a downloadable version here; although, this may not be practical due to the model's relative large file size -- about 14 megabytes and growing.  With Google Sketchup or the Sketchup viewer, you will be able to view the model, or parts of the model, from any distance and viewpoint, as illustrated by the image below:

As you can see, even though the model is not yet complete, it appears very much like the real ship and contains a fairly high amount of detail.

Of further interest, below is an image showing basic (i.e., not detailed) models of the three large boats carried by USS Liberty.  The full-hull versions of these models will be included with the completed USS Liberty model.
